Risks Associated with a Gastric Sleeve Procedure
As with any surgery, there is always a degree of risk. Patients should consider that whilst the Gastric Sleeve is a procedure with minimal complications and risks, such outcomes cannot be guaranteed. One should also consider that weight loss outcomes vary for each individual. Recent research shows that, despite favourable early results, there is minimal long-term data (>10 yrs) regarding weight loss. Some other potential, yet unexpected, risks include leaking from staple line, reflux in first 3 months following surgery, and stricture of the gastric tube. All concerns can be discussed in detail with your surgeon.
