The LAP-BAND® procedure is the most commonly performed weight loss procedure in Australia and has a number of advantages over other procedures.

Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Average excess weight loss with a Gastric Sleeve is approximately 60-80%. This surgery is a more permanent solutions with minimal follow up required and is performed laparoscopically.

ORBERA Gastric Balloon

obera intragastric balloon diagramThe Orbera Intragastric Balloon is a non-surgical procedure designed to assist individuals who are overweight and wanting to lose 10-15kg. This endoscopic procedure involves placing a non-fixed saline-filled silicone balloon in the stomach, reducing the food-holding capacity and calorie intake.

The balloon remains in the stomach for 6 months and is complemented with a 12 month lifestyle modification program designed to help patients change their bad habits and live a healthier lifestyle.

Gastric Bypass surgery diagramGastric Bypass Surgery

Gastric Bypass surgery (or Roux En Y) is performed under laparoscopy and involves the division of the stomach into two pouches, one smaller upper gastric pouch and one larger lower pouch. This procedure comes with higher risks and complications than the sleeve or band and more dietary restrictions, however it is usually offered as a revision surgery option if previous surgeries weren’t successful.

Band to Sleeve Conversion & Revision Surgery

Revision weight loss surgery is an option for patients who need to have a previous procedure repaired or changed in favour of a more suitable option. Revision surgery usually follows after complications associated with the original procedure or after poor weight loss or weight gain. Fortunately complications with the Band and Sleeve are rare.
