Weight Loss: Kim Penola
This week, we celebrate the successful Weight Loss of Kim Penola
Here’s her story:
My journey started out as my doctors and psychiatrists helping me through this as they wanted to take out of my mind that I hated myself so much that I wanted to kill myself.
The day came when I had to use the shakes for weight loss to get some fat off prior surgery. I started at 165.4 kg and lost 15 kg in 3 weeks, I was surprised and felt good I had proven to me I can if I need to dig deep and help me. After surgery, I was following the guidelines and still occasionally having a treat.
For the last six months, I have been hovering around118kg, up then down then. I started analysing what I had been doing differently – and you must be brutally honest with yourself – as I had been having a bottle of wine every fortnight or an ice-cream on a drive or a slushy but until you start to feel fat then the negativity comes back and you can start to resent self. I made a new pact with my personal trainer – I go back to basics and don’t cheat and no alcohol, only special occasions. I get a month free at the gym so bring it on.
What I have learnt from this is to get up, get dressed and put your makeup on, look in the mirror and say I like you till your hairs on arms stand up and then I love myself until the hairs on arms stand up. It is so easy to think that I should have lost as much as somebody else in comparison, or this isn’t working but it does if you put in 100%, even if you cannot see it, your clothes show it. My clothes are getting looser and I have appreciated the changes happening to my body, mind and spirit.
I am now ready to finish what I started and get to 80 kilo’s but I am not putting pressure on myself and if I’m meant to get there I will, and if not, I will be close to it. Either way, I don’t want to die anymore, I want everyone to feel as amazing as I do and I am so grateful to everyone who has helped me, my doctors, WSLA staff, and family and friends and God and me for listening to everyone.
