Weight Loss: Tess Moananu

This week, we celebrate the successful weight loss of Tess Moananu.
Here’s her story:

I was sleeved on the 6th of November 2020. Just shy of 4 months since having surgery and I’ve dropped from 165kg to 129kg. Am I happy about this? Happy is an understatement, I’m ecstatic, excited, proud and appreciate the best decision I’ve ever made. I wear my sleeve with pride!

Even though I’ve had to put in the hard work, getting the sleeve has assisted with a struggle I’ve had for many years like eating extreme portions of “not so good food”. I remember when thrashing a massive block of chocolate and washing it down with coke was my go-to but nowadays, the thought of coke, let alone chocolate that I couldn’t live without back then, is now just a distant memory and one I certainly don’t miss.

Being of Samoan descent, we are known to be larger than your average human. Our culture and lifestyle are centred on food, our favourite saying is ‘Food is Life’. Whilst it’s hard to attend family gatherings without getting a decent helping of greasy soul food, I know that I am not missing out, especially as I look back on how and where I once was.

With so much more energy, I am now able to spend quality time with my family, always wanting to move and be outdoors! I’ve even joined a baseball team which I’ve always wanted to do.

The team at WLSA have been amazing, accommodating and genuinely interested in my well-being with all the added love and support.

Onwards and upwards to a healthier and happier me. Cheers to the discovery of such procedures that help the slaves to food like me!

Message from WLSA:

Tess, we are just as ecstatic as you are! In just four months you have achieved so much and we can’t wait for an update on your baseball games. Continue to put in the hard work, and we’re sure you will achieve many more great things.
