My Journey
The start of my journey commenced when I would yo-yo diet and could never get my weight under 75 kg, so I sort help from WLSA at Varsity Lakes. At this time I was at my heaviest of 86 kg and as I only wanted to loose 10 to 15 kg I was advised the gastric ballon would be a good option.
The ballon was inserted on 29 April 2015 and like all things that effect our health it was a hard start but very few compilations. Within a couple of months the balloon settled and our journey begun. My body had to get use to a new way of eating with the meals being smaller, the balloon assisted me with this and WLSA staff were their to offer guidance and professional assistance when ever I needed it. With the weight loss come added exercise and the more weight I loss the more I felt free and for the first time in a very long time I had the energy to move and enjoy more activities that I longed to do. I kept a journal of my weight, each week I would weight and monitor the slow decline in the weight, there were times that the weight would stabilise and times it would rise, so back to watching the diet and seeking the valued guidance from the WLSA nutritious.
Prior to this journey I would eat large and sometimes unplanned meals so to assist me have regular, smaller meals I set alarms on my phone, that would remind me to have smaller, planned meals during the day. I still use these reminders to date. To ensure I am drinking the correct amount of water I have large water bottles on my desk at work and at home which enables me to know if I have had the collect amount each day, works wonders.
I would be lying to you if I said in the beginning I was concerned that my decision to have the procedure was a challenge, however it did get easier and I had a goal to work towards which makes the journey the best decision I every made.
I had the balloon removed in December 2015, weighting 63.7kg, total loss of 22.3 kg a massive achievement. The journey continues and at times I have to re-evaluate but this is a lifelong journey and a ride that I have never regretted taking. I can not express my thanks and gratitude to all the staff at WLSA because they took this journey with me, I never felt I was doing it alone I had the support, love and guidance from these wonder people. My journey was also for my grandchildren who are the light of my life, I wanted to be around for them in years to come, to enjoy activities with them as they grow up to be a
vailable for them to swim, run and enjoy life with.
I hope my story has inspired at least one person to take the journey and live a more productive healthy lifestyle and allow the wonderful professionals and staff of WLSA to assist you in this Journey. *
