Wonderful Weightloss: Michael Robinson

This week’s wonderful weight loss story is, Michael Robinson! He wrote a little story of his journey, a very inspirational one:

My journey to my weight loss began back in July 2016. I have been a diabetic for over 20 years with Type 1, I have been on Diabex and Insulin 4 times a day. In July 2016, I had my first hypo while with my client. I am a part time disability support worker. I was taken to hospital and kept there for a number of hours. While I was waiting in the short stay ward, I had to get out of the bed to go to the toilet and I had great difficulty getting out of the bed. This was as they say my light bulb moment and I said to myself that I have to do something about my weight. After getting home, I went on the web and looked up weight loss and I came across WLSA. I made an enquiry and was invited to an information night, from that I had appointments with all involved and a date was set for my gastric sleeve surgery.

Due to my heavy weight (207kg), I had 4 weeks of pre-surgery diet and during this time, I lost 15kg. I had my surgery on the 9th September 2016 and I had my 3-month appointment in December 2016, at this time I had lost 38.6kg. On 28th March, I had my 6-month appointment with WLSA and I have lost 51.5kg. The difference the weight loss has made to me has been amazing, I have been able to walk further than I could before the surgery, I have been able to buy new clothes and have a better outlook on life. I have not had to have insulin since the day of my surgery and am only on Diabex. I no longer take my blood pressure medication and am working with my doctor to ceasing taking my heart tablets.

I would like to thank everyone at WLSA for all the support and kindness they have shown.

My future looks great.

From the CEO of WLSA:

When I first met Michael he was in a wheel chair and his mobility was severely compromised. Seeing him walking comfortably and further all the time as he loses weight is fabulous to see. Michael’s functional fitness has improved so much and this will help him in multiple ways to live a better quality of life. His diabetes improvement is  outstanding and one of the outcomes we see patients benefit from on a consistent basis post sleeve gastrectomy. Managing his diabetes better, reducing his insulin and preventing further complications associated with his diabetes are what gets us so excited about the sleeve gastrectomy for our patients. Congratulations Michael! We could not be happier to share in your success.
